Strike's On
Genever is assumed to have taken its name from the French word genievre meaning juniper. In the 1680s, the English monarchy greatly encouraged the production of Genever and its consumption in preference to imported spirits. Soon the name was shortened to geneva, ginevy and by 1714 to gin.
