Sidecar

Created shortly after the First World War at Harry's Bar, Paris. An Army captain was in the habit of arriving in a chauffeur-ridden motorcycle sidecar, and Harry created this for him.

Ingredients

  • 1 measure of cognac
  • 1 measure of Cointreau
  • 1 measure of lemon juice

Instructions

Shake and strain.

Garnish: slice of lemon. A dash of sugar syrup is now often added.

The Sidecar is more often served now with broken ice in a rocks glass and with a little less lemon.

Alcohol Content: 2.0 units

  • Applecart: Replace cognac with apple brandy

  • Chelsea Sidecar: Replace cognac with 1 1/2 measures of gin

  • Boston Sidecar: Add 1 measure of white rum
