Leap Year

Created on 29 February 1928 during leap year celebrations by Harry Craddock, head barman at the American Bar, at the Savoy Hotel, London. Craddock was a leading American bartender in his day, and became something of a celebrity. In 1930 he published the now highly collectable Savoy Cocktail Book. In 1939 he moved to the Dorchester Hotel, and in 1951 opened a new cocktail bar at Brown's Hotel.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 measures of gin
  • 3/4 measure of Grand Marnier
  • 3/4 measure of Rosso Vermouth
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions

Shake and strain into glass filled with broken ice, squeeze lemon twist and discard. Originally served straight up.
