Gin and Tonic

Tonic water is a product of the fight against malaria. It contains quinine, an extract of the cinchona nitida tree bark from Java, which was found to arrest the reproduction of malaria parasites, and is effective in alleviating fever and pain. Today, in its highly dilute form, it is appreciated for its 'tonic' effect.
