Negus
Invented by Colonel Francis Negus in the early 1700s and sometimes made in bulk. 'A most refreshing and elegant beverage, particularly for those who do not take punch or grog after supper.' Jerry Thomas, How to Mix Drinks, 1862.
Ingredients
- 2 measures of LBV port
- 1 measure of claret
- 1 measure of burgundy
- 1 teaspoon of brandy
- 2 measures of water
- 1/2 a lemon thinly sliced into rings
- 1 small pinch of nutmeg
- 1 heaped teaspoon of sugar
Instructions
Heat gently, strain into glass when hot.
