Shake
To mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker until they are cold. This will mix the ingredients more completely than stirring, but will also result in a less clear drink. Drinks that contain ingredients that are hard to mix, such as eggs, cream or fruit juices, should be shaken vigorously to enable them to become well mixed. If crushed ice is used, the resulting mixture is then poured unstrained into the serving glass.
When shaking a cocktail, always add the ice to the shaker first, and the alcohol last. This will ensure that all ingredients are properly chilled by the ice when they are poured in, and by adding the alcohol last there will be less chance that it will become diluted by the melting ice.
